Uttarakhand Conducts Mock Drills Across 7 Districts in Preparation for Chardham Yatra

Administration on High Alert Ahead of Chardham Season

The Uttarakhand government has activated preparations for the upcoming Chardham Yatra by conducting mock drills across seven districts. Under the direction of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA), district magistrates held meetings with officials to review readiness.

District Magistrate Savin Bansal stated that for the mock drill, the district has been divided into 9 zones and 23 sectors. GIS mapping and accurate resource assessment have been undertaken to enable rapid response during any disaster situation. Responsibilities under the Incident Response System have been assigned at the sector level.

Seven Zones and a Zero-Loss Goal

The administration has set a zero loss of life target for the Chardham Yatra and has put all agencies on alert. The State Emergency Operations Centre is monitoring the mock drills being conducted across the seven districts. Each department has been given clear instructions to coordinate with each other to ensure smooth pilgrimage operations.

Tehri Garhwal Acts as Key Gateway for Pilgrims

In Kirtinagar, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Manju Rajput held a meeting with officers from all departments in the development block to review arrangements. She directed all departments to work in coordination as the Yatra was approaching, to ensure that pilgrims heading to Badrinath Dham and Kedarnath Dham face no inconvenience.

Tehri Garhwal district has been identified as the primary gateway for the Chardham Yatra. Highway officials have been directed to fill potholes on roads, the water department to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply along the pilgrimage route, and the health department to strengthen medical services. A mock drill was also conducted from Maletha Chowk to Kirtinagar via the new bridge.
