Path Cleared: Uttarakhand's 38th National Games Medal Winners to Receive Government Jobs

A Historic Medal Haul That Awaited Recognition

A total of 243 athletes from Uttarakhand who won 103 medals at the 38th National Games will soon receive direct government jobs. According to Special Principal Secretary (Sports) Amit Sinha, the proposal for approving these jobs has cleared the Personnel Department. It has now been forwarded to the Finance Department, after whose clearance all medal winners will be formally offered employment.

Star Performers Who Made the State Proud

The 38th National Games were held from January 28 to February 24. Uttarakhand's Ankita Dhyani stood out by winning two gold medals in the 5000 metres race and the 3000 metres steeplechase. Nivedita Karki, Kapil Pokharia, and Narendra brought home three gold medals in boxing. Pooja delivered a standout performance in taekwondo and also won a gold medal. Several other athletes from the state also contributed significantly to the impressive medal tally.

Sports Minister Rekha Arya had earlier written to Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan requesting that all 243 posts for medal-winning athletes be created directly within the Sports Department. The proposal submitted by the Sports Department includes three options: creating all posts in the Sports Department alone, distributing posts across six departments including Police, Forest, and Sports, or creating posts across various other government departments.
