Kumbh Mela 2026: Patrolling Track to Keep Elephants and Leopards Away from Camp Areas

Wildlife Incursion Threatens Kumbh Camp Zones

The Vairagi Camp area in Haridwar, where akhadas and saints set up their camps during the Kumbh Mela, regularly sees wild animals entering from adjacent forests. Elephants, leopards, deer, sambar, and nilgai breach the forest boundary. Elephants pose the greatest risk as they cross into agricultural fields daily, threatening both crops and human safety.

Forest Department Gets Rs 40.99 Lakh for Wildlife Security

The Forest Department has been allocated a budget of Rs 40.99 lakh from the Kumbh Mela fund to construct a 2-kilometre raw patrol track using RBM material. The track will run from the Vairagi Camp along the Ganga bank to the Najibbad bridge.
